(SOUTH PLAINFIELD, N.J., 10/3/2019) – The New Jersey chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-NJ) today welcomed the resignation of Raritan Deputy Louis Reiner after he reportedly posted a series of threatening Islamophobic messages on his personal Facebook page.
One post depicted a mushroom cloud and declared “SOME CANCERS MUST BE TREATED WITH RADIATION. ISLAM IS ONE OF THEM.”
On Oct. 1, the Raritan Township Committee passed a resolution condemning the posts and calling for Reiner to resign from the Deputy Mayor position.

“The bigoted, hateful and threatening social media posts shared by this elected official are symptomatic of the Islamophobia that grips this country today,” said CAIR-NJ Executive Director James Sues. “We applaud the Raritan Township Committee for taking action against this kind of hateful rhetoric, which does a disservice to the welcoming and diverse community that New Jersey truly is. Bigoted views such as these should not be tolerated by any government agency.”
