Acting together against hate

NEWTON — Asked last week if it was important for a vigil to be held Sunday afternoon, Erin Jacobus said she told the questioner, "it is not. It's vitally imperative we hold it."

Jacobus told the story as the first speaker at that Sunday rally on the Newton Green with a crowd of 80 or more standing in temperature of about 90 degrees, moving around as the shade line of the trees also moved.

Sara Sheikh, of the Council on American Islamic Relations, said, "We have entered a new era and it's important we stand united and remember that love conquers hate."
