For Immediate Release - June 30, 2016
On behalf of a broad spectrum of more than 85 Muslim organizations in New Jersey, we join all the people of good conscience in the world and categorically condemn the terrorist attack by suicide bombers at Istanbul Airport that took the lives of 41 innocent people and injured another 239. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the deceased and the injured and the victims of all the terrorist attacks around the world. It is obvious now that extremism and terrorism knows no borders and humanity is the victim of this ominous phenomenon.
The terrorists who continue to perpetrate these heinous crimes against humanity know no religion. They represent nothing more than a deviant and evil death cult bent on sawing discord amongst the civilized world and people from all backgrounds.
The suicide terrorists who carried out this horrendous attack on innocent travelers do not represent Islam or Muslims in any sense. The Islam we know and practice calls for peace, mercy, love, tolerance and helping others.
As the Qur’an states, “Whoever kills a person, it is as though he has killed all mankind. And whoever saves a life, it is as though he had saved all mankind.” (Qur’an 5:32) Further, in the Qur’an, God commands, “… do not kill yourselves, for, behold, God is indeed a dispenser of grace to you.” (An-Nisa 4:29) and “…Take not life, which God hath made sacred," (al-An'am 6:151).
The Coalition urges all mosques and Islamic Centers to organize candle light vigils for the victims of this terrorist bombing as soon as possible. Such a vigil was held by Muslims for Peace on Wednesday evening, June 29th. Masjid-e-Ali will hold a candle light vigil at 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 30th at 47 Cedar Grove Lane to remember the victims of this tragedy and pray for peace, unity, tolerance, and love.
The Coalition also encourages mosques to remember the Istanbul victims during Friday Jumma prayers this week as deemed appropriate by each mosque, including Salatul Janaza Ghayb.
